Tapped In #012: Parties, Pop Culture, and Pints for Dad

Hey all,
I’m sneaking this week’s post out a little later than usual because I couldn’t tear myself away from upstairs - The Loft bar is now built and it looks fantastic. It’s one of those milestones that makes the whole project feel real. With the bar in place, we can now get on with finishing the electrical, fitting out the toilet, and adding the details that will make the space shine.
Thursday and Friday had that classic taproom buzz, and the weekend gave me time to connect with customers, share a few stories, and sneak in some work upstairs between pints. Future Magic at its finest.
🍽️ The Parmy Arrives
We’re kicking off our new weekday lunch menu soon but wanted to start somewhere, and where better than with a proper Parmy? This isn’t your stock-standard pub version - it’s brined, hand-crumbed with our special seasoned breadcrumbs, topped with rich Napoli sauce and melted cheese, and served with chips and salad.
The recipe is a bit of a family affair. Mum (Fran) nailed the original version, and Sonia and Francesco have tweaked it until it felt just right. The first plates went out this week and the feedback has been fantastic - crisp, cheesy, hearty, and just what you want for a midday treat. Pair it with a pint of Hazy Shade and you’ve got the perfect lunch.

🎶 Early 2000s Trivia
Our next themed trivia night is on the way and it’s going to be a ripper: early 2000s.
So dust off your Discman, dig out that Von Dutch hat, and practice your best MSN Messenger font styles. We’ll have decorations to set the scene, a playlist of 2000s bangers, and plenty of nostalgia flowing through the room. Dress-ups are always encouraged - bonus points if you can pull off the perfect Britney/Justin denim-on-denim look.
The quiz itself will cover music, movies, TV, pop culture and general knowledge from the decade that still feels “recent” (and no, I’m not calling it retro yet).
For me, I was more of a rock and punk kid - an absolute little skater rat who lived in band tees and Vans. I couldn’t land a kickflip these days if you offered me a million bucks, but back then it was everything.

🛠️ The Loft: Bar Up, Paintbrushes Out
This week’s milestone: the Loft bar is officially built and the wall's been cut in half! First, the bar, with a hardwood top, natural features, and soon to be finished with gold lettering on the front - it already feels like the heart of the space. With plenty of room around it, it’s going to be functional, polished, and ready to handle everything a function might need. The biggest visible difference though is from downstairs. The wall being cut down to size has really opened up the space and brought a lot more light both to the taproom and the Loft!
Next steps: finishing the electrical, painting, and fitting the toilet so the space is fully ready to host. Every bit of progress makes it easier to picture a wedding, birthday, or corporate party happening up there - and we’re not far off.
👨👧 Father’s Day & Family Milestones
Here’s one that makes time fly: Matt’s little one - who was just a few weeks old when he first joined us last year - is now one. Just in time for Father’s Day this Sunday.
We’ve been thinking about how to celebrate, and we’ve come up with something special: every group dining with us in September will go into the draw to win a year of beer for Dad. That’s a 4-pack every week for twelve months, picked up fresh from the brewery. The kind of gift that keeps on giving.
So bring Dad in, share a meal, raise a glass, and maybe set him up with free beer for the year.
Until next round…
From the first Parmy plates to 2000s nostalgia, from bar builds to family milestones, this week has been a mix of community, food, fun, and progress. Thanks for being part of it - whether you’re here for trivia, lunch, Father’s Day, or just a cheeky pint, you’re what makes Future Magic what it is.
See you in the taproom soon,
Sean 🍻
