Tapped In #010: Dogs, Gin & 'The Loft' Takes Shape

Hey all,


This week at Future Magic had a real change of pace. With the first taste of warm weather rolling in and the Ekka public holiday giving people an excuse for a day off, the taproom had a really relaxed, easygoing vibe. It was one of those weeks where you could feel people just wanting to escape the grind for a bit - grabbing a pint, catching up with mates, and letting us be part of their routine. That’s the stuff that means the most to us.


🐾 Something for the pups


The highlight pour this week isn’t actually for humans! We’ve just released our very first Dog Brew - a 25-hour slow-cooked beef bone broth made from nothing but bones and filtered water. No nasties, just rich, hearty flavour that dogs absolutely lose their minds over.

Ruby (our family dog/head taste-tester and resident goodest girl) has already had six cups this week and reckons she’s onto something. These are $7.50 each, and they’ve been flying out the door. If you’ve got a four-legged mate, bring them in quick because stock is very limited.

This Saturday is the return of our Gin Masterclass with White Oat Distillery. Demand’s been so strong we’ve had to open extra tables, but this is the final call - spots are nearly gone. $59 gets you four cocktails, nibbles, and an afternoon of good vibes. Book your spot now

🍻 What we’re brewing


Over in the brewery, I’ve been whipping up some fresh favourites we’ve been missing - plus something special for Oktoberfest. We’re bringing out a crisp, hoppy Kölsch with a modern twist thanks to Mandarina Bavaria hops. Light, clean, but with just enough citrus zip to keep it lively. Can’t wait for you to try this one.



🛠️ The Loft takes shape


Renovations upstairs have hit a huge milestone: lights are in, walls are going up, and insulation is being installed this week. For the first time it’s starting to look like a proper space. We’ve officially named it



And it's our new home for functions, parties and celebrations.


Christmas bookings are already coming in, which has been really heartening. Seeing people who’ve had events here before come straight back to lock us in again means we must be doing something right. If you’re planning a Christmas party, now’s the time to secure your date.


🌱 Future Magic Impact


I’ve been deep into something that has been near and dear to my heart and something I believe should be at the core of Future Magic from the beginning, sustainability. Now I don't just mean putting in LED Lights and single ply toilet paper, we're all worth more than token efforts and less-than-luxurious experiences. I mean putting a number on it, measuring the good and bad to see how we can make it better, namely, building our first Environmental Impact Report. It’s been eye-opening to track our numbers, and I’ll share the full report soon. But here are a couple of early wins worth celebrating:

  • Industry benchmark for water use is 5-7 litres per litre of beer. We’re sitting at 5.2 and aiming to get under 5. I've seen places at well over 10 litres of water per litre of beer in just the brewery, let alone the whole business!.

  • Thanks to our solar system, we’ve already reduced 18.5 tonnes of CO₂ in 2024.

  • We’re tracking at around 280g of CO₂ per litre of beer sold (including both production and dispensing!) and looking to drive that down closer to 200g.


It feels good to measure what matters and set real targets for change. I'll keep you up to date!
