Tapped In #007: A Happy Sunday, Secret Builds & A Glorious Gorgonzola Special

Hey all,
I don’t get to spend as much time on the floor as I used to, which is something I miss. So when Fran wasn’t feeling great on Sunday I ended up in the taproom with everyone!
What a day.
We had pub chess ticking along, families catching up, friends sharing pints, and just this really happy buzz around the whole space. Being back out there with the team and our regulars, chatting with you about this blog, the upstairs build, upcoming beers - it was one of those Sundays that reminded me why we built this place in the first place.
So many of you told me you actually read these updates - and that means more than you probably realise. Obviously I see every email response, message, order come through etc but actually hearing it straight from you guys means the world.
🧙♂️ Magic in the Taproom: Harry Potter Trivia Was a Hit
We were packed to the rafters for Harry Potter Trivia - and it was magic.
The place looked like Hogwarts (shoutout to Sonia for the decorations), we had people turning up in full costume, and the energy was through the roof from the first question to the final shout-out.
It wasn’t just busy - it was buzzing in the best way. These themed trivia nights especially are becoming something really special, and it’s all because of the way you show up for them - with heart, humour, and a healthy dose of house rivalry! (Gryffindor all the way!)
🧹 Brewery in Motion: The Return of Hazy Shade & Big Fella?
This week, Matt and I are back in the brewery, giving the tanks some TLC, transferring Hazy Shade and Big Fella, and - if the carbonation gods are kind - getting them both back on tap at last.
It's been a bit of a saga, especially with Big Fella, but we’re hoping to pour both again later this week. We’ll give you the heads-up the second they hit the taps.

🍕 New Pizza Special: It’s Got Bite
This week’s pizza special is an absolute belter: The Gorgo: Italian sausage, red onion, gorgonzola and olives on a tomato base.
Rich, salty, tangy, and bold - this one’s packed with flavour and a little attitude. If you’re into strong cheeses and punchy toppings, this is your week.

🛠️ Upstairs: It’s Getting Ever Closer!
We’re deep into reno mode upstairs - this Friday we’re doing more framing and finally getting some bench seat sheeting installed so we can create proper seating.
We’ll be bringing in a scissor lift soon to kick off electrical so we can light the place properly, and planning one massive build day where we’ll raise the new Wall around the edges and sheet it all in one go.
That one’s going to be a big ol’ day - and we’ll have to do it while the venue’s closed because once that structure’s mid-way through, nobody can go up there save for on the scissor lift!
Keep an eye out for progress pics over the next few weeks - we’re keeping most of it under wraps, but we’ll keep dropping little peeks as things take shape. We do have this little mock up to show you though! Plenty of seats, a bar, separate entrance, private bathroom and more hidden features to suit Birthdays, Engagements, Weddings, Corporate Events/Meetings and just about any event you could think of!
🧙♂️ What’s On: Gin Incoming
Gin Tasting Event: Bookings will go live this week for our next Gin Masterclass, happening August 23rd. Same White Oat magic, new menu - keep your eyes peeled.

💛 Staff Shoutouts: Zoe & Francesco
Sunday’s smooth service was no accident - and I want to call out two people in particular.
Francesco has been absolutely nailing it in the kitchen. One of the ways we track how we’re doing is by watching what comes back on plates - and lately, we’re seeing almost nothing. No crusts left behind, no uneaten sides. That tells me what I already know: the food’s not just good - it’s worth finishing. Every. Last. Crumb.
And Zoe, who probably hasn’t even heard this yet (hi Zoe), saw a family walk in with kids, clearly meeting up with mates, and without hesitation greeted them, showed them to the family seating area, grabbed a high chair and helped them settle in.
It’s the little things. But they’re everything.
That kind of awareness - that care - makes all the difference. I saw it as a dad, and I saw it as a business owner. And it made me proud of the team we’ve built.

Until Next Round…
Thanks again for reading, sharing, showing up, and reminding us that this space means something to people. The beers are flowing, the pizzas are bold, and the build is moving - and it feels like there’s a lot to look forward to.
See you soon,
Sean + the Future Magic crew
